Living Without A Kitchen Is The Real Cost
Layout gets all the attention and the demolition schedule gets none. A kitchen is the one room you cannot close the door on and come back to. Before anything comes off the wall, we agree on the order of work and what stays usable — the fridge on a temporary run, the sink live until the counters go, the microwave somewhere you can reach it.
The other half of that is sequencing. Cabinets, counters and appliances all have lead times, and the fastest way to add three idle weeks to a kitchen is to demo before the boxes are in the driveway. We measure, order, and only then start pulling things apart. A single room usually runs one to two weeks; a full kitchen runs longer, and we say so up front rather than at week three.
What It Costs
Jobs here run between $875 and $18,750, and a kitchen can land anywhere along that depending on whether you are refacing and re-trimming or gutting to the studs. A single room most often sits between $2,000 and $3,500; a full kitchen with new cabinetry sits well above that. Deposit is 25%, the rest as the work lands. Questions
Can I keep my existing cabinet boxes?
Often, yes. If the boxes are solid and the layout works, new doors, drawer boxes and trim change the room for a fraction of a full rebuild. If the boxes are particleboard that has already swelled under the sink, replacing them is the cheaper decision over any real timeframe. We tell you which one you have at the walkthrough.
Do you move plumbing and electrical?
Carpentry, tile, drywall and finish work are done in-house with no subcontractors to chase. Where a job needs a licensed trade for a gas line or a panel, that gets flagged in the written plan before you commit, not discovered halfway through.
Custom cabinets or store-bought?
Stock boxes are quicker and cheaper and fit most straight runs fine. Custom earns its money where the room is not square, the ceiling is tall, or you want a specific opening — an appliance garage, a run around a chimney breast, drawers sized to your pans. Old Atlanta houses tend to push toward custom more often than new builds do.
